In our line of work, planning a marquee for a private party is often compared to the precision required execute a rocket launch. Well maybe not a rocket launch, but there is a lot to consider, plan and put in place to ensure your private party goes off with the fanfare it deserves. This is where we come into our own.

What to consider first when planning your Party Marquee

Hopefully we have managed to fire your imagination and  you would like to get an idea of what size marquee you would need. To help you on your way, we have put together a short list of questions to consider.

A little guide to get you started:

Where to start? It is important that the look and feel of the marquee should reflect the occasion. As you can image, the theme for an 18th birthday party is very different from a summer ball. With this in mind we highly recommend that you consider this first.

You might think this question is somewhat obvious, however, there’s quite a lot to consider here too. How many after dinner guests are you planning to invite; will there be a number of young families attending whose children will need highchairs or a play area to keep them entertained. Similarly, will there be grandparents who need wheelchair access and a suitable seating area.

The size and layout of a marquee can vary considerably depending on what type of party you are planning to host. As you can imagine, the layout for a Summer Ball, Barn dance, family dinner, afternoon tea, Birthday bash, kids party, disco/nightclub are all completely different!

If you are planning to host your event in the summer, it’s a really nice idea to make use of any additional outdoor space. This can be enhanced by various forms of outdoor furniture and lighting. Whereas if you are planning your party on a potentially chilly winter evening, you’ll need to consider heating and maybe a covered walk-way to keep your guests dry.

Next, you need to think about your running order. This will vary according to the type of event. For example; a summer ball may include a welcome reception, dining, after-dinner speeches and party to round off your celebrations. Whereas an afternoon tea party is likely to be completely different.

Locking down the running order is important as it significantly impacts upon how we design your marquee to best utilise the space and ensure there is a natural flow from one space to another during your party.

Are you thinking of a lavish buffet, or a silver-service banquet? A buffet requires additional space to present the food and for guests to mingle before they choose what they want, whereas silver-service requires a little more space around the tables for the waiting staff to serve your food.

Then there’s the food preparation and service. We can partition of part off your marquee for this, however, we recommend using a separate catering tent, as the last thing you want is the sound of banging plates and pans intruding on your after-dinner speeches! The size of the catering area is usually specified by the caterers and is dependent upon the extent of on-site food preparation and the number of guests.
